CAMP Safety Tree Access Evo Harness
The rope bridge on the harness model Tree Access Evo (ref.2163) is fastened by means of screw-closure metal rings. The screws allow the user to replace the rope bridge in case of wear-and-tear (see image).
One customer has reported the loosening of one screw in one of the metal rings while climbing and this could present a safety concern. We are not aware of any occurrences of injury or bodily harm and no other instances of loosening of the screws have been reported to us.
In order to avoid loosening of the screws due to continuous vibrations and shocks, we recommend the following precautions to all users:
- immediately check your harness and make sure to tighten all the screws with an adequate amount of torque, as described in the technical manual supplied with every harness. If possible, use a torque wrench with Allen key (size 5 mm) to tighten the screws to 12 Nm (8.85 ft-lb), see fig.3 on Tree Access Evo manual (see image). We also recommend applying a thin layer of Loctite 243 threadlocker on the thread before screwing, in order to further limit any possibility of loosening of the screws.
- use the same procedure in case of replacement of the rope bridge,
- inspect the screws to ensure they are tightened appropriately during the normal inspection required before and after each use of the harness,
- follow the instructions provided with the harness for making a complete inspection of the harness before and after each use.
Out of an abundance of caution, C.A.M.P. has started to apply Loctite 243 threadlocker during the manufacturing process when the bridge is assembled.
