What is your primary means of adventure, AKA what gets you most psyched?
Long distance adventures
Invent your dream adventure by combining five places, disciplines, pitches, peaks, environments, etc. and stacking them together into a combination. Why did you pick each part?
I would stack together the High Sierra 5 times in a row, and maybe throw in the Wind River Range in the middle. These are awesome spots for cross country travel, ski trips, and a lot of different adventures.
Describe 5 climbs, trips, or moments that have defined you as a mountain athlete:
- Hiking 1800 miles unsupported through Africa
- Hiking about 2100 miles from the easternmost 8000meter peak to the westernmost 8000meter peak through the Himalayas
- Completing the first winter traverse of the Pacific Crest Trail from end to end
- Hiking over 10,000 miles in one year
- Making my own hiking route from Durango, CO to Las Vegas
Describe your most memorable night in the mountains:
I was trekking alone and unsupported through Africa. I was near the Kenya/Tanzania border and I got stalked by lions while in my tent.
What has scared or intimidated you as a mountain athlete?
Mother Nature is a force that is stronger than any person. The best you can do is plan accordingly.
What would your adventure partners be most surprised to learn about you from before the time when they met you?
As I was growing up my mom thought I’d either be a doctor or work on Wall Street.
What are your top 5 alltime favorite pieces of CAMP equipment?
- XLC 490
- Corsa
- Race 290
- Alp Racing
- Nano 22
Why are you a CAMP athlete?
CAMP makes the lightest weight technical gear that I need for a lot of the trips. Weight and performance or two key traits that I look for in gear and CAMP equipment embodies both of those.

- Completed the Appalachian Trail for the first time
- Completed the Pacific Crest Trail for the first time
The adventure, route or race I had to train the hardest for was:
The first winter traverse of the Pacific Crest Trail.
The adventure, route or race that wrecked me the most was:
Both the winter traverse of the PCT and also the thruhike of the Himalayas.
I most want an all-expenses paid trip to:
Greenland.
My short list of climbing or adventure goals this year:
I’m not sure on this one since, early in 2015 I completed the first ever crossing of the PCT in Winter. I need to decompress (and warm up)!
