CAMP USA Inc.
CAMP is the leading climbing hardgoods brand for light and fast with the lightest product in nearly every category we sell. Carrying a strong lightweight ethos in the mountains is like taking a laxative when you really need it. Lightening your load has the serious potential to increase both performance and safety in the mountains. This workshop is all about lightening up in every part of your rack and pack. We will come to the table with exemplar packs filled with lightweight gear for the following missions: The Diamond on Long’s Peak, Ice Cragging Days, 14er Peak Bagging. Off the Couch Fitness for Alpinism
Jesse Mattner
Alpinism as a discipline requires a unique kind of physical fitness and mental fortitude that typical training cannot deliver. We are not building muscles to see our mass grow and we are not training in adverse conditions so we can have a story to tell our friends at the bar. We do these things because our unique discipline requires them. At the base level of athleticism for alpinism is what I call OFF THE COUCH (OTC) fitness. It is the level we know we are capable of at any moment given our standard level of fitness, prowess and experience. It is our benchmark or baseline. This workshop will present the concept of Off the Couch Fitness in an applicable way and open up to Q&A to help folks figure out ways they can apply the concept to their climbing.

About Jesse: Alpine Climber, Managing Director of CAMP USA Inc., father of 3. I understand the challenges of training for alpinism with a packed schedule, lots of distractions, and the peculiarities of getting older. It has not always been that way for me. I have always been busy, sure, but there was a time when I had time to train my heinie off and climb cutting-edge alpine and ice routes throughout North America. Today, I maintain a level of fitness that allows me to continue to climb interesting and challenging routes even facing the limitations of my current life stage. I do it through high intensity focused training and awareness that only comes with routine benchmarking. I look forward to sharing what I have learned along the way!
