They came up short of the record they set in July, but watching Yuji Huriyama and Hans Florine blitz The Nose on El Cap in one of their last attempts to break their own record was like trying to memorize the patterns of a lightning storm. They showed up in a place and then promptly disappeared only to emerge from shadows several hundred feet higher faster than anyone could anticipate.
This was on Wednesday, October 8th. A few days later, October 12 to be exact, they would return and slash their record time to 2 hours, 37 minutes and 5 seconds. Tom Evans, a valley veteran and author of the El Cap Report, estimates that no one in their generation will come close to the new record.
