Bryan Wickenhauser has made the podium in both COSMIC ski-mountaineering races to date. Here’s what he had to say to the open-ended question: COSMIC is new to Colorado and the sport of competitive ski-mountaineering is still embryonic nationwide. Who should be competing in these races and why?
A: The sport of ski mountaineering is fairly new to North America, but has a long history in Europe. Anyone who fancies themselves as a skier or snowboarder should give it a go, especially if you really enjoy getting out in the back country! If you have a mountain biking, trail running, or Nordic back ground you’ll really enjoy the challenge. There are so many elements to this sport that it really favors the most well rounded athlete
COSMIC offers several different categories depending upon your mode of travel (AT, Tele, Splitboard), and two different courses depending upon your experience (Recreation, Race). Plus the race director, Pete Swenson does a great job of the post race party!
Ski ya later!
