CAMP Tour Nanotech Automatic & Semi-Automatic Crampons
If you have purchased a pair of CAMP Tour Nanotech Automatic (ref. 367) or Semi-Automatic (ref. 374) crampons (see pictures), we ask that you stop using them immediately and follow the procedures below to process your warranty claim. Batch numbers affected by this recall are: 0 11 | 1 11 | 1 12 | 2 12 | 3 12 | 1 13 | 1 14.
Problem Description: We have discovered inconsistencies in the crimp at the end of the attachment points on the rear heel bail where the bail connects to the crampon. With strong outward pressure, the heel bail can come free from its attachment to the crampon causing the boot to come free from the crampon.
Remedy: The company has manufactured replacement parts to correct the problem. Replacement parts are expected to be available in July, 2015. All affected crampons should be returned immediately to CAMP USA Inc. for inspection and installation of the replacement parts.

What is the specific problem?
We have identified inconsistencies in the crimp on the rear bail where it attaches to the crampon. This crimp is important because it creates a flange that locks into the attachment hole on the crampon thereby preventing detachment with outward pressure.
Am I in danger?
We are asking owners of CAMP Tour Nanotech Automatic and Semi-Automatic crampons to stop using their crampons immediately and follow the steps listed on this page in order to have their crampons retrofitted with a replacement part that corrects the problem.
Can the problem be fixed?
Yes. Replacement parts that correct the problem will be available very soon.
When will the replacement part be ready?
We expect to have the replacement parts available in July 2015. Once we receive the new parts, your crampons will be professionally retrofitted with the new part.
How will I be able to tell the difference between a pair of Blade Runner crampons that have been retrofitted with the new part or not?
To make sure customers can tell the difference, we have changed the color of the wheel that adjusts the height of the plastic clip on the rear bail from black to gray. If this component on your crampons is black, then your crampons are affected by this recall and should be sent in for replacement. If this component on your crampons is gray, then your crampons are not affected by the recall.
Which batch numbers are affected by this recall?
Batch numbers are used by manufacturers to isolate any individual unit of a product back to the original date of manufacture. Every safety product manufactured by CAMP has a batch number permanently marked on the product. The batch numbers affected by this recall are: 0 11 | 1 11 | 1 12 | 2 12 | 3 12 | 1 13 | 1 14.
Does this affect my Tour Nanotech Universal crampons?
No. Only the Automatic and Semi-Automatic versions use the specific part with the problem. We have confirmed that all other parts of the crampons including the Universal binding components have been manufactured and assembled to specification and meet or beat all available standards.
Have there been any injuries or deaths from the problem?
Can I trust my Tour Nanotech crampons in the future?
Yes. With the replacement part installed, we are confident that the problem will not re-occur.
Are there any safety standards that the Blade Runner meets or doesn’t meet?
Due to the manufacturing defect, these crampons do not meet the CE/EN 893 or UIAA 153 standards for crampons. With the replacement parts installed, the crampons meet or beat these standards without problem.
Is this a voluntary recall?
Yes. Detachment of the crampon from the boot has been reported in only one instance with no resulting injury or harm. Based on this single incident, we have inspected our stock and manufacturing reports to discover the inconsistency in the crimp on the rear bail. It is our duty to replace this part with a fully compliant part to remedy the problem and prevent potential for failure in the field.
