BLAKE HERRINGTON
PROFILE | BIO
Hi, my name is Blake Herrington. I am inspired by mountains and drawn to the sense of adventure I find in the alpine wilderness. I appreciate the challenges, preparation, and hard work done in advance of big climbs. Even when I’m pulling for a send on the local crag's most compelling route, I find I am unable to take my mind off my larger and loftier goals. I started climbing in the Cascade Range, where I was fortunate to spend my teenage years surrounded by the largest peaks in the lower 48. Here I learned the skills of ultralight backpacking and climbing. In my early 20’s I traveled to South America, Alaska, New Zealand, and Thailand, summiting peaks, climbing new routes with minimal gear, and even doing a bit of cragging on the beach. I am proud to have established roughly 20 new alpine routes without having placed a single bolt.
I am really excited to have the opportunity to help CAMP continue pushing limits with ever-improving alpine gear. I've drastically lightened my rack, and I'm still waiting for more Nanos! The boys at CAMP USA seem to share my opinions about the importance of honest, critical feedback and I like how they practice what they preach - their training breaks at the office 'gym' are truly intense, and they still find time to get out and climb big routes. I look forward to working closely with them on product developments and with the R&D folks in Italy who, based on the gear, seem to be some of the most innovative climbing engineers in the world.
