CAMP WELCOMES TWO NEW ATHLETES TO THE TEAM

CAMP USA is proud to add two new athletes to our small and dedicated athlete team. Paige Claassen is one of the strongest female sport climbers in the country most recently cast into the limelight for breaking the 5.14b barrier with her ascent of Grand Ole Opry at the Monastery in Colorado. Blake Herrington is an alpine rock climber known for serious adventures and committing first ascents in the Cascades and throughout the West. Both will be strong partners in the areas of product development, pushing grades, new routing and climbing stewardship.

Paige: Hi, my name is Paige Claassen and I am a Sport Climber living in Boulder, Colorado and a junior at the University of Colorado. I put a lot of pressure on myself to push my own limits and this propels my passion for the sport. Close friends, family, fresh air, sunshine, and cookies also add to my motivation and psyche ... Blake: Hi, my name is Blake Herrington. I am inspired by mountains and drawn to the sense of adventure I find in the alpine wilderness ... I am proud to have established more than 20 new alpine routes without having placed a single bolt ... READ MORE

Hey, it's Wick here piping the new CS Irwin Race in December! The CS Irwin Ski Mountaineering race on December 11th, 2010 will showcase some of the fastest back country ski racers in North America.  The start of the race will take place at an elevation of nearly 10,400 ft and lead skiers up to the top of Scarp Ridge (12,100 ft) three separate times for a total of over 5000ft+ of gain/loss.  If the elevation isn't enough to make your quads shake, racers will travel the equivalent of over 10 miles...all above 10,000ft!

This is a brand new event and has already been accepted in the COSMIC Series, which is in its 5th season, as the opening event of the race calender. With an average snowfall of over 600"+ per year, the CS Irwin venue is a great place to hold an early December race ... guaranteed to have snow!  The race location is about 7 miles from the nearest town (Crested Butte, CO), and with no maintained roads in the Winter, athletes will either take a CS Irwin cat ride or supply their own sled for transportation to the start line!  There is a movement in the Rocky Mountains to establish race venues modeled after this European style of racing, which means getting these competitions off traditional ski resorts and into a back country setting.

Competitors can sign up for the event at www.csirwin.zapevent.com. Do it quickly as we are only accepting the first 50 athletes to sign up! Bryan Wickenhauser & Jake Jones are Co-Race Directors on this new endeavour and can be contacted at:

Bryan - wick@teamcrestedbutte.com
Jake - jakejones808@gmail.com

We have both been racing in the COSMIC Series since its inception and enjoy skiing human powered powder, deep in the back country ...  come join us!
